Shafiq suspended two months over handling of Kingsley
Apprentice R Shafiq has been suspended for two months over his handling of KINGSLEY in Race 6 on March 23.
At the conclusion of an inquiry last Wednesday, Shafiq pleaded guilty to a charge in that shortly after entering the straight, he, as the rider of Kingsley, used his whip in an inappropriate manner when he used his whip in a forward motion, thereby striking the hindquarters of Von Snitzel when racing to the inside of that gelding.
His suspension takes effect from tomorrow until Oct 20. He was advised of his right of appeal.
Over his handling of ROYAL BRAT in Race 8 on June 29, Shafiq was warned and reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish of the race.
WS CHAN, SYAFIQ AND RUEVEN GET TWO DAYS
Apprentices WS Chan, H Syafiq and R Rueven have been suspended for two race days each for careless riding.
Chan had allowed DR N WING FIGHTERS to shift inwards approaching the 600m mark in Race 3 on June 27, when insufficiently clear, thereby crowding Super Joe, who checked and lost ground.
Syafiq had allowed BRANKSOME to shift inwards in Race 2 on July 18, when insufficiently clear, thereby crowding Bright General, who checked and lost ground.
On his ride on INCREDIBLE HULK in Race 8 on June 29, he was warned and advised that he should be mindful and not cover excessive ground on his runners in future.
Rueven had allowed JAWARA to shift inwards in Race 8 on July 18, when insufficiently clear, thereby resulting in Morris to check.
As Rueven has been engaged to ride today and on Friday, his suspension will start from Saturday.
Chan and Syafiq's suspensions cover this weekend's meetings.
