Shooter wins Singapore's first CGames gold

Teo Shun Xie fired Singapore's Commonwealth Games contingent to its first gold medal by winning the women's 10m air pistol event.

The 25-year-old edged out India's Malaika Goel for the top prize, scoring 198.6 to her competitor's 197.1 at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre in Dundee.

Canada's Dorothy Ludwig shot 177.2 points to claim bronze.

Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong, who watched Teo's shoot from the Games village with other Team Singapore officials, said: "We are very proud. In particular, it was the way she won the medal.

"She was initially at seventh place and she fought her way to the very top.

"That shows tremendous resilience and confidence to keep fighting and persevering.

"I hope it will inspire all our other athletes to keep up their fighting spirit and do their very best throughout the Games."
