Spalato withdrawn from Raffles Cup

Yesterday's $500,000 Group 1 Raffles Cup lost some glamour when one of the main chances, SPALATO, was withdrawn.

The John O'Hara-trained Patron's Bowl-Emirates Singapore Derby winner had an irregular blood count.

"It's very disappointing. The blood count was irregular, but the horse's welfare comes first," said O'Hara. "We had no other choice but to scratch him."

The Elusive City six-year-old was attempting to redeem himself from his first local defeat when fourth to Stepitup in the Group 1 Panasonic Kranji Mile on Oct 4.

On Thursday, Wall Street Boy was scratched.

The Raffles Cup was left with eight runners and was won by Stepitup.
