Winning star set to shine again
Trainer Leslie Khoo's WINNING STAR has hit a bright patch, with three smart showings in his last three starts, culminating with his last-start easy win.
As the four-year-old is maintaining form and is meeting the same calibre of Class 5 horses which he beat, he should be worth following again in the opening race today.
The other two plus factors are that he is dropping 1kg to 57kg and will again start from an inside draw (No. 1, compared to No. 3 in his last start).
Winning Star set his winning motion by finishing third to Gypsy Star over 1,400m on June 27.
The New Zealand-bred followed up with a neck second to Vassilakos over 1,100m on the Polytrack on July 18. His conqueror went on to complete a double, which underscored his form.
Winning Star also broke through on Aug 1 despite being blocked for a run.
It appeared that he had lost all chances but jockey Nooresh Juglall extricated himself from a precarious spot to win easily by three lengths over today's 1,600m trip and Polytrack surface.
Winning Star is no world-beater, but the manner in which he won suggests that he is under-rated in Class 5.
It should pay to stick with him.
