Bosnia Herzegovina record first victory in World Cup

Bosnia Herzergovina recorded their first ever win in the World Cup with a 3-1 win over Iran in Thursday's (June 26) World Cup match.

Iran had to win this game to stand any chance of qualification but goals from Bosnia's Edin Dzeko, Miralem Pjanic and Avdija Vrsajevic meant that the Iranians are out. The Bosnians too, were eliminated.

The Bosnians were bossing most of the first half and went ahead when Dzeko came deep to collect a pass before advancing into space and firing a precise low shot in off the post from 23 metres in the 23rd minute.

Bosnia then doubled their lead when Tino Sven Susic provided a through pass for Pjanic to curl around the goalkeeper.

The Iranians ensured that they would not go into the record books as the only team not to score in this World Cup when Reza Ghoochannejhad scored from close range.

The Iranians' celebration though was short-lived as defender Vrsajevic's run from deep within Bosnia's half ended with him thundering in a goal in the 83rd minute.
