Brown: Emperor Max in control
HAPPY CONNECTIONS: (From near right) Emperor Max's owner Dr Gordon Yau, trainer Stephen Gray, Dr Yau's wife Liew Qui Yin and jockey Corey Brown with their trophies after the Stewards' Cup presentation ceremony.
Jockey Corey Brown knew Emperor Max had the Stewards' Cup race well under control from the word "go".
"Yeah, I wanted to jump and be positive early and let them know I wanted to lead," said the Australian.
"If something happened to go really stupid, I was actually happy to take a seat behind. But he had plenty of speed, being over 1,400m today.
"He controlled the race. They started to come at him just prior to the home turn.
"He travelled nicely for me. He just went through his gears really well, released the brakes at about the 300m and he just went as he liked.
"He's a class horse. He definitely has got plenty more big wins in store and I've got no doubt, later on, he'll get up over a mile. So, that will open up more options for him."
