City announce Fernando capture
Manchester City have confirmed that they have sealed a deal with Porto for the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Fernando.
While the transfer fee has not been disclosed, the Citizens are reportedly shelling out £12 million ($25.5m) to bring the 26-year-old to the Etihad Stadium.
The deal was confirmed on Manchester City's official website, which stated that Fernando will wear the No. 6 shirt for the Blues next season.
City tried to negotiate a deal for him in the winter transfer window but could not convince the Portuguese club to sell.
Now, it looks like manager Manuel Pellegrini has finally got his man.
Excited
Fernando told City's website: "I know there was talk of me possibly signing last January so I am delighted that the deal has now been done and that I am a City player.
"I'm looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and helping City to defend the title.
"It is a very exciting time to be part of this football club and I cannot wait to play in the Premier League."
Normally a defensive midfielder, his acquisition will boost City's considerable strength in the middle of the park, where they have players like as Fernandinho, Yaya Toure and Javi Garcia.
