Costa scores on debut as Chelsea win
New Chelsea signing Diego Costa scored on his debut as the Blues came from behind to beat Olimpija Ljubljana 2-1 during a pre-season friendly at the Stozice Stadium.
The Slovenian side shocked the English Premier League giants in the 40th minute as midfielder Nik Kapun punished Chelsea for some slack defending to give the hosts the lead.
However, Costa, a £32 million ($67.5m) purchase from Atletico Madrid in the summer, combined with another new Chelsea signing in Cesc Fabregas to crash home the equaliser on 55 minutes.
The turnaround was completed by Kurt Zouma, who pounced on a rebound off Olimpija's goalkeeper to fire home the winner in the 63rd minute.
It was also a first goal in a Chelsea shirt for the French defender, a January signing from St Etienne who returned to Stamford Bridge after seeing out the remainder of last season on loan at the French side.
Speaking to the Chelsa official website after the game, manager Jose Mourinho said: "It was good for us because we try to play against teams in better condition than we are. We played against a team in Austria (WAC RZ Pellets) who have already started their league and today we played against Olimpija, who have been training for a long time.
"Winning or not winning is not the most important thing at this moment, the most important thing is to compete, so I thank the coach and players from Olimpija because they gave us the type of match we needed.
"Obviously it's nice for a striker to score in his first game. It's nice, no more than that. For Cesc, it's also important to understand the team, which he is doing step by step."
