Costa winner sends Bayern back to top

Douglas Costa's long-range strike rescued Bayern Munich in their 1-0 victory at bottom side Darmstadt yesterday morning (Singapore time) to reinstate his side as Bundesliga leaders before the showdown with RB Leipzig.

Bayern host second-placed Leipzig at the Allianz Arena on Thursday morning in a mouth-watering clash.

Both teams are on 36 points, but the Bavarian giants lead on goal difference.

Costa's ferocious dipping shot from 30 metres out on 71 minutes was the highlight in an otherwise lacklustre Bayern display.

Bayern defender Mats Hummels admitted that his side must improve before the Leipzig showdown.

"We will have to put in a top performance, a standard one isn't going to be good enough against a team like that," said the German international. - AFP
