Giroud: Gunners are smoking... literally
There is no smoke without fire.
Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere and Wojciech Szczesny have recently been caught puffing away and striker Olivier Giroud has confirmed that there is a smoking culture at the Emirates Stadium.
But Giroud has dismissed it as an issue, telling French sports daily L’Equipe that there are smokers in every club.
“Everyone knows that there are a lot of players who smoke,” said the 28-year-old Frenchman.
“In every team, there are four or five. It doesn’t shock me. In rugby, they also smoke. And nobody is shocked.”
Giroud does not smoke himself, but his revelation may not be welcomed by manager Arsene Wenger, who has always condemned it when his players have been caught puffing in public.
Wenger should know how to deal with this situation though, as he used to enjoy lighting up.
When the Frenchman was coach at Monaco, he used to smoke on the bench.
