It's a penalty!

Brazil fullback Marcelo has insisted the referee denied his team a clear penalty during his team's 0-0 draw with Mexico in Salvador.

Two minutes from time, the left-back surged into the box but went down under a challenge from Mexico's Raul Jimenez.

Despite protests from the players, referee Cuneyt Cakir remained unmoved.

But Marcelo insisted contact was made.

After the match, he said: "When I controlled the ball, he grabbed my shoulder.

"And if he pulled me inside the box, it is a penalty.

"He pulled me. If he hadn't done that, I would've taken the ball.

"I would've made it to the ball and crossed it to one of my teammates."

Brazil captain Thiago Silva also complained about the incident.

He said the outcry surrounding the controversial award of a penalty to Brazil during their World Cup opener against Croatia last Friday might have played on Cakir's mind. (see story below).
