Jovetic: Pellegrini has killed me with Champions League omission

Once one of the most highly sought-after youngsters in the world, Stevan Jovetic now cuts a desperate figure at Manchester City.

The arrival of £28million new-signing Wilfried Bony has left the Montenegro forward in dire straits, as manager Manuel Pellegrini left him out of his European squad.

In an exclusive interview with Sunday Mirror Sport, he hinted that the snub is making him assess his future.

The 25-year-old said: “I have not made any decision about my future. I will wait until the summer then we will see.

“But the manager has put other players ahead of me, so maybe this is a message about what he wants to do.”

European ambitions

He added that he had signed from Fiorentina because he wanted to play in the Champions League.

Said Jovetic, who cost City £22million 18 months ago: “I deserve to play in the Champions League. I know that.

“The manager has killed me with this decision. I feel I deserve my place and other people have told me the same.

“People have told me I am a great player, but it is clear that the manager doesn’t think the same way. I am very disappointed, even now.

“I don’t think it was a good decision — or the right decision.”
