Most bizarre penalty conceded? Defender picks ball up with hands

Footballers abide by the golden rule of never handling the ball in the penalty area.

Well, usually, unless they are in the mood to concede the most bizarre penalty of the season.

In an AFC Champions League match between Al Hilal and Al Ahli on Tuesday (Sept 29), Al Ahli defender Salmin Khamis decided that a ball lying precariously close to the byeline had gone out of play.

So, he picked it up with his hands.

The officials didn’t agree with him and awarded a penalty to hosts Al Hilal.

Alas, Carlos Eduardo struck his spot-kick against the post.

The match ended 1-1.
