Roma beat Pool thanks to Agger own goal
Liverpool's indifferent start to life after Luis Suarez continued with a 1-0 defeat by Roma this morning (Singapore time).
The Serie A side, featuring former England and Chelsea defender Ashley Cole, settled the tie in the 90th minute when former AC Milan striker Marco Borriello steered the ball into the back off the net via a deflection off Danish defender Daniel Agger.
To make matters worse for the Reds, Fabio Borini suffered a shoulder injury in the 12th minute, jeopardising a potential £14 million ($29.5m) move to Sunderland.
However, speaking after the match, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers played down the severity of the knock.
"He's only bruised it," said Rodgers. "He won't train now for the remainder of the trip here, but it's only going to be a few days before he's back training and playing again."
Despite a flurry of new signings since selling talismanic striker Suarez to Barcelona for £75m, Brendan Rodgers has been trying to find the right mix to make up for the void left behind by the Uruguayan, who topped the English Premier League scoring charts last season with 31 goals.
Before their defeat to Roma, Liverpool lost to Danish side Brondby 2-1 before beating Preston North End by the same scoreline.
Liverpool's next friendly assignment is against Olympiakos in Chicago on Sunday, a game in which Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic are expected to make their Reds debuts.
