Suarez bite: The best quotes
If there's one subject that the world is talking non-stop about it is Luis Suarez.
The Uruguayan shocked the world when he chomped on the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini, and was promptly punished by football's world governing body Fifa.
Here are some of the best quotes that have been said about the incident:
'It was ridiculous not to send Suarez off...Suarez is a sneak and he gets away with it because Fifa want their stars to play in the World Cup. I'd love to see if they have the courage to use video evidence against him. The referee saw the bite mark too, but he did nothing about it." - Giorgio Chiellini does a pretty good job at playing the victim and baiting Fifa into action.
"There are things that happen on the pitch and you should not make such a big deal out of them." - Luis Suarez couldn't really see what the big fuss was all about.
"I did not see the incident. I did see the bite marks on Chiellini's shoulder." - Italy coach Cesare Prandelli delivers a rather flat and frank assessment. He did have other things on his mind though - like resigning from his post.
"This is a football World Cup, it’s not about cheap morality." - After getting irritated with reporters pressing him on the incident, Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez escalated things rather quickly.
"What incident? I don't know what incident you're talking about. The pictures don't show anything. They show an approximation but nothing important." - Uruguay captain Diego Lugano, who is clearly no fan of video technology.
"This is behaviour that's happened two times (before). You cannot justify it. I seriously think he needs help." - He might coach Suarez's closest club rivals, but Everton manager Roberto Martinez sounds genuinely concerned.
"I'm not gonna lie to you. I'm not in the best shape, but...I will bite every German player if I have to!" - Comedian Will Ferrell couldn't resist a dig at Suarez while pumping up US fans ahead of their match against Germany.
"Such behaviour cannot be tolerated on any football pitch, and in particular not at a Fifa World Cup when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field. The disciplinary committee took into account all the factors of the case and the degree of Mr Suarez's guilt in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Code." - Claudio Sulser, chairman of Fifa's disciplinary committee, throws the book at Suarez in Fifa's statement on the outcome of the case.
"We do not accept the recent behaviour of Luis Suarez and shall remind him of the high standards we expect of our players. We have no plan to use Suarez for any other marketing activities during the 2014 Fifa World Cup." - World Cup sponsor adidas who was among the first who reacted to the ban.
