Valdano slams Mourinho with Pep comparison
Jorge Valdano has continued his ongoing feud with Jose Mourinho by claiming that the Chelsea boss cannot compare to Pep Guardiola.
The former Real Madrid player, coach and director was an outspoken critic of Mourinho and did not see eye-to-eye with him during their time at the Santiago Bernabeu.
While Mourinho has since returned to the English Premier League with Chelsea, Valdano - who once bracketed the Portuguese's brand of football with Rafa Benitez's as a "s**t hanging from a stick" - has now taken another swipe at the Special One.
Valdano, 58, said his former Barcelona nemesis Guardiola is a superior coach to Mourinho.
Enemies
Writing in his new book, The 11 Powers of a League, Valdano said: "(Mourinho's) a figure who is perfectly suited to these bombastic, shallow times.
"I couldn't understand him because he is in the antithesis of my sensitivity. Intelligence and ego are enemies. And when they collide, the ego wins.
"If Guardiola is Mozart, that makes Mourinho is (Italian composer Antonio) Salieri. He would have been a great musician if Mozart had never existed.
"I've never heard him say a single thing about football worth remembering, whether in public or in private."
Failure
The Argentinian then attacked Mourinho again during an interview to promote the book by branding his tenure as Real Madrid boss a failure for not capturing a Champions League title.
Valdano said: ""He had one of the best squads in the history of Real Madrid.
"He always remained just outside the door of the Champions League. That was the big challenge which he did not manage to succeed at."
Regardless on his view of Mourinho, one thing is certain.
Expect an incendiary return of fire from the Special One really soon.
