WATCH: Celta Vigo player attempts the most embarrassing dive ever

Remember the name Joaquin Larrivey.

When you grow old and your grandchildren are sitting on your lap, you may want to reminisce about one of the greatest football cons ever attempted.

The score between Spanish clubs Celta Vigo and Eibar on Sunday were tied at 0-0 when the Argentinian decided to show off his move.

He got to the ball just inside the box, ahead of Eibar defender Lillo, then decided to throw himself to the ground. The only problem was that Lillo had pulled out of the challenge and didn’t even come close to making contact with the forward.

And for theatrical effect, Larrivey also fell onto the feet of another bemused Eibar defender.

The entire world saw what exactly happened, except for referee Carlos Velasco Carballo who pointed to the spot, to the horror of the home team.

But then again we also remember that this was the same referee who didn’t see much wrong with Juan Camilo Zuniga’s tackle on Neymar during the Brazil-Colombia match at the 2014 World Cup which fractured the Brazilian’s vertebrae and ended his tournament.

Justice prevailed eventually, though, when the linesman pointed out Larrivey’s dive to the official and Carballo showed the Celta Vigo player a yellow card instead.

A close shave, we must say. But Celta Vigo ended up winning 1-0 anyway.
