Work permit delays Rojo's Man United debut
Manchester United fans will have to wait a little longer to see Marcos Rojo in action after Louis van Gaal confirmed that the new arrival from Sporting Lisbon will miss their upcoming match against Sunderland.
Despite declaring that the Argentine World Cup star was ready for action, the Red Devils boss revealed that Rojo will not play because he has not yet been issued a work permit.
Speaking to MUTV, van Gaal said: "Rojo is fit and ready to play but he doesn't have a work permit so we have to wait."
Midfield crisis
Rojo's omission is certainly another blow for United, who have a mounting injury crisis in midfield.
While the overall number of players in the treatment room has dropped from nine to seven, Marouane Fellaini, Jesse Lingard and summer signing Ander Herrera have been ruled out through injury.
The Dutchman said: "It's (the injuries) much too much. I have had this as a manager for the first time. We have to live with this.
"We have four injured midfielders - Carrick, from the beginning, but now also Herrera, Fellaini and Lingard. So these four are injured and we are thin on midfielders now."
However, there was some good news as van Gaal revealed that star striker Robin van Persie was fit to return against the Black Cats.
