League Cup: Balotelli finally scores to spark late Liverpool comeback against Swansea
Mario Balotelli might have given Liverpool fans little to celebrate since joining them this season but he came to their rescue in Wednesday morning's (Oct 29) League Cup 2-1 win against Swansea.
Liverpool were staring at elimination until the 24-year-old Italian came off the bench to prod home a crucial equaliser at Anfield with four minutes remaining in the game.
Marvin Emnes had put Swansea ahead in the 65th minute and it looked as if Swansea were going on for a victory until Balotelli came on and showed excellent of the ball movement to prod home the equaliser.
The match appeared destined for extra-time until Swansea’s Federico Fernandez was controversially sent off for a 92nd minute challenge on Philippe Coutinho and Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren scored in the fifth minute of stoppage-time.when he got on the end of Coutinho’s free-kick to head home the winner.
