Munro jumps off Thumping for Cordoba

With regular partner Alan Munro riding Cordoba in tomorrow's Stewards' Cup, trainer Hideyuki Takaoka had to look elsewhere for the ride on THUMPING.

"David Flores has not won for us yet, but he's ridden a few. He rode Thumping in a gallop yesterday and said she was quite fit," said the Japanese handler, who normally assigns the bulk of his rides to Munro.

"Alan had already told me at the end of last week he would ride Cordoba. I understand, as I also think Cordoba stands a better chance, and I'm glad I was able to book David, who is a very good jockey too."

Takaoka will, however, still count on the British jockey's precious counsel tomorrow regarding another Derby longshot prospect, Danger Zone.

The Japanese-bred four-year-old is entered in the Kranji Stakes C race over 2,000m, the $80,000 Better Than Ever 2009 Stakes in Race 5.

"Danger Zone could be my second Derby runner, but he needs to win as his rating is even lower (59)," said Takaoka, who often pairs him with six-year-old gelding Tangible Assets in such staying races, and ditto tomorrow.

Tangible Assets, who lost to Danger Zone in three recent clashes, will be ridden by Flores, his partner in his last two starts.
