A Race Village for fans

Fans who plan to head to next weekend's Extreme Racing Series are in for a treat. Team Aberdeen Singapore have opened a slot for a sixth man on their boat.

The winner of the Winch Challenge will get to fly the Singapore flag on the boat along with Scott Glen Sydney and Justin Wong, the only two Singaporeans in the series. The challenge from Aberdeen Asset Management, the main event sponsor and the title sponsor of the local invitational team, is just one of the many activities that will be set up at the Race Village at the Promontory@Marina Bay for the public.

The Race Village will be open from 11am next Friday and will last for the weekend and entry is free.

Before the opening race, the Breast Cancer Foundation's dragon boat team Paddlers in the Pink will take on the Singapore-based extreme sailing team in a 2,000m head-to-head race - the first race of this length to be held in Singapore.

Other attractions at the village include experiencing driving a Land Rover off-road at the Terrapod, sports photography at the Canon booth and a children friendly zone called Happy World of Haribo, where youngsters can learn the science of sailing.

Visitors can also enjoy a drink and take in the races from a double-storey bar built specially by No. 5 Emerald Hill.
