Shanti clocks personal best in indoor 60m

National sprinter Shanti Pereira established a new all-time indoor best in the 60m when she clocked 7.61 seconds to finish seventh in the final at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Hangzhou, China, yesterday.

Pereira's time beat the previous mark of 7.74s set by Amanda Choo in 2008.

The Singapore Athletic Association does not keep indoor records, so it refers to new marks as all-time best.

Compatriot Calvin Kang also finished seventh in the men's 60m final, clocking 6.83s. Elfi Mustapa also ran in the men's 60m, but his 6.93s effort was good only for 13th place.

Nurul Jannah leapt 5.33m to place eighth in the women's long jump.

The championships conclude today with Singapore runner
Fan Jian Yong taking part in the men's 800m.
