Balestier want to avenge for league losses to Warriors

GROUP B

BALESTIER v WARRIORS

(Tonight, 8.30pm,
Toa Payoh Stadium)

League leaders Warriors FC will head into this game full of confidence.

They are the S.League's highest scorers, boasting an average of two goals a game, thanks in part to the blossoming strike force of last season's Young Player of the Year Nicolas Velez (seven goals) and Singapore international Fazrul Nawaz (eight) who joined in late March.

In addition, they have already met Balestier twice this season in the league and picked up full points on both occasions.

Alex Weaver's men beat their opponents 1-0 at the Jalan Besar Stadium in the season-opener on March 1, and won 2-1 in the Tigers' den at Toa Payoh Stadium on May 7.

But Balestier skipper and goalkeeper Zaiful Nizam (above), who recently made his international debut for Singapore in the friendly match against Brunei, is not bothered about the statistics.

He said: "Yes, Warriors beat us twice in the league this season, but we feel we played better in both matches.

"In the match at Jalan Besar, we hit the post twice, and in the second game, they scored from a deflected shot and a penalty, which were their only two attempts in the game.

"We know we can match them and we'll go all out to overcome them this time round."

Man to watch: Fazrul Nawaz (Warriors FC)
