Kwok's latest stunner
Oops, he did it again!
The new S.League season has yet to kick off, but Tampines Rovers midfielder Fabian Kwok is already out to impress.
He scored yet another long-range stunner, this time in a 3-0 friendly win over hosts Sabah on Friday night (Jan 30).
The 25-year-old latched on to a clearance just outside the centre circle, took a touch, and blasted an unstoppable 35-metre shot past the Sabah goalkeeper after just coming on as a second-half substitute.
Kwok is fast building a reputation for being a reliable midfielder with an eye for the spectacular strike, after his thumping effort for former club Geylang International last May.
On that occasion, he scored from the centre circle straight off the Albirex goalkeeper's clearance in a league match. That strike won the S.League Goal of the Year award.
Modestly, he told The New Paper: "I controlled the ball with my first touch of the match, and no defender closed me down, so I took a shot. I think I'm just lucky, lah."
He added: "But these goals definitely build my confidence to take more long shots.
"It feels great to score for my new club in only my second friendly for them. I hope to score more in the league and cups."
A video of the goal can be found on the Great Eastern Yeo's S.League Facebook page, and has amassed more than 8,000 views, with some fans clamouring for Kwok to be given a shot at the national team. With the Lions lacking someone who can contribute goals from distance via open play, he could be a much-needed addition.
Watch it here. The goal comes at 4.43.
And here is the screamer from last May.
