Adam in Under-23 squad for Turkey trip
After proving his mettle with star turns in the Singapore Under-23 team's recent friendlies against Malaysian sides Johor Darul Ta'zim II and Pahang, playmaker Adam Swandi will get a chance to cut his teeth against higher quality competition when the Young Lions travel to Antalya, Turkey, for a training camp.
The trip, from Monday to Feb 4, is part of the team's preparations for June's South-east Asia (SEA) Games and the Great Eastern Yeo's S.League season which begins in March.
The Young Lions will play against the U-23 teams of Spartak Moscow (Jan 23) and Hamburg (Jan 26), before meeting the Uzbekistan's U-21s (Jan 29) and the U-22 team of Yemen (Feb 1).
Speaking to The New Paper, Adam, who has excelled for the Young Lions since returning from his 18-month stint at French club Metz, said: "It feels great to be part of the team for this training camp.
"I'm excited to test our ability against some top quality opposition like Spartak Moscow.
"It will be very beneficial for the team."
Sharing that sentiment was Young Lions head coach Aide Iskandar, who felt that the training camp would be invaluable.
"This training camp will be an excellent opportunity for the team to bond, both on and off the pitch," said the former Singapore captain.
"The boys will train together, eat together and sleep together...
"Most importantly, this will be very helpful as part of our preparations for this year's SEA Games on home soil."
