White Swans bond with community

Albirex Niigata (Singapore) presented Yuhua Community Sports Club (CSC) with a cheque worth $17,395 last year.

The Japanese club promised to give the CSC $1 for every fan who walked through the turnstiles at their Jurong East Stadium home in 2014, an initiative that was part of the club's strong collaboration with the community.

The club's charity initiatives started in 2013 when they donated $19,386.

Club chairman Daisuke Korenaga said Albirex intend to continue with their support of Yuhua CSC, while also planning to organise other sports for the area's residents.

"We want to help the Yuhua residents become more active," he said.

"For us, it is in line with becoming a Super Sports Club, which is not just about football. A lot of Singaporeans ask why a Japanese club is playing in Singapore. So, we must create reasons for our existence here."
