Better than Ronaldo? Guess which Stoke striker has better EPL stats than the Ballon d'Or winner

English Premier League pop quiz time.

Which player has banged in more goals than Cristiano Ronaldo and Fernando Torres, notched up more assists than Paul Scholes and boasts a better goals-per-minute ratio for England than Michael Owen and Alan Shearer?

It’s none other than Peter Crouch, the man who made the robot dance fashionable again.

The gangly 2.03m forward may look anything but poetry in motion on the football pitch, but his cold, hard numbers take some beating,

Crouch’s 92 EPL goals mean that he has scored five more than Torres and is eight ahead of newly minted Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo,

And he’s not just about finding the net — the Stoke City man is ranked 13th in the goal creation charts with his 53 assists, more than Dennis Bergkamp, Scholes and Ronaldo.

And Crouch is no slouch in an England jersey either.

His 22 goals in 42 caps, based on goals per game, is also a more impressive record than Owen’s 40 strikes in 89 matches and Shearer’s 30 goals in 63 outings.

Those are splendid figures that Crouch can bore his grandchildren with in the future, but for now he is just happy being a Potter.

He said yesterday: “I don’t know what will happen in the future, but at the moment, for the foreseeable future, I am happy playing for Stoke.

“My contract is up at the end of the season so I don’t know what the future will hold, but at the moment I will just continue to do what I do — that is work hard and hopefully score some goals.”

“It is nice to hear the manager (Mark Hughes) has got belief in me and hopefully I can stay here for a few more years after this.”
