Footballer dies after horror tackle
An Indonesian footballer has died after succumbing to internal injuries from a blow to his stomach.
During an Indonesian Super League match on May 10, Persiraja striker Akli Fairuz was attempting to get to a loose ball when he collided with PSAP Sigli goalkeeper Agus Rohman, whose trailing foot connected with Akli's abdomen.
Despite watching the match from the bench after being substituted, the 27-year-old's condition worsened and was later admitted to a hospital where he underwent surgery. He died on May 16.
According to jawapos.com, doctors said Akli had swollen organs and a ruptured intestine.
In the same article, a guilt-ridden Agus said: "I really feel guilty. I did not intentionally do it because it was me and Akli both wanted to win the ball and my leg accidentally went into his stomach.
''I apologise to the family. I had absolutely no intention of hurting him."
