Hummels promised Fergie he will join United
Mats Hummels is ready to quit Borussia Dortmund, with Manchester United favourites to sign the highly-rated German defender.
The 26-year-old, who is valued at around £30 million ($61m), has been a target of the Red Devils since 2012.
It was revealed in the Mail Online that Hummels actually made a promise to then-United manager Sir Alex Ferguson three years ago.
Fergie travelled to Germany in 2012, aiming for a triple transfer for Hummels, Robert Lewandowski and Shinji Kagawa. But Fergie managed to sign only Kagawa.
But Hummels gave Fergie his word that, if he moved abroad, it would be to Old Trafford.
United would have no problems splashing out the cash for Hummels, as it is believed that manager Louis van Gaal will be handed a £150m war chest this summer to form a team capable of delivering the Premier League title.
