Sweeter than the last one
Singapore 'Citizens' lap up title triumph as Liverpool fans look forward
Once again, Manchester City have won the English Premiership title on the last day of the season, mirroring their feat over arch-rivals Manchester United in the 2011/12 season.
For City fan Kevin Tan, the Citizens' latest title triumph over Liverpool is "better" than the one over United two season ago.
"We won the title back in 2012 on goal difference, but, this time, we won on points and it is more straightforward," said the 26-year-old, who watched the match with his friends at the Carlsberg Everyone's Home Ground screening at the Suntec Convention Centre last night.
"When we lost (3-2 last month) to Liverpool, I thought our title race was over, but they then lost to Chelsea and drew with Crystal Palace to bring us back into the race.
"I was quite confident before the matches tonight because we are very strong at home and we needed only a draw to secure the title."
CONSOLATION
Around 200 fans watched three matches at the screening - City strolled to a 2-0 win over West Ham United and Liverpool and Chelsea both overturned 1-0 deficits to win 2-1 against Newcastle United and Cardiff City, respectively.
Lifelong Liverpool fan Nina Abdul-Koh took consolation in the fact that the Reds were much improved from last season.
"We were seventh last season and this year we were challenging for the title right up to the final day," said the 42-year-old operations manager, who watched the match with her husband, Andrew, and friends.
"What is important also is that we will be back in the Champions League next season and, under Brendan Rodgers, I believe we will be challenging for the title again.
"But we will have to improve on our defence - our focus has been on our attack this season and we need to shore up our backline to push for the title again, starting in August."
The event also attracted fans from Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, some of whom celebrated with wild abandon when the screens flashed a latest result revealing their team had scored.
When the emcees called out for fans from the dethroned champions, Manchester United fan Colin Chang gamely went up to the stage.
The 29-year-old applications manager said: "It's alright, it's high time we gave other clubs a chance (to win the title).
"I preferred City to win the title over Liverpool because quite simply, the Reds are our arch-rivals, more so than City."
