Steven Lam breaks the jinx finally

Trainer Steven Lam finally got off the mark and saddled his first winner of the season when DOUBLE CASH took out the Stepitup 2013 Stakes, a $60,000 Class 4 race over 1200m, in Race 9 last night.

It was the fourth win from 19 starts for the four-year-old gelding, with his last victory on Aug 23 last year, coincidentally his trainer's last visit to the winner's circle

"That's not a record any trainer wants," said the Hong Kong-born trainer, looking relieved.

"Eight months is a long time and it's not been easy but we just try to keep working hard."

"I'm very pleased and relieved to finally get that win."

That it was Double Cash, an outside chance at $110, who delivered the breakthrough, was especially sweet for Lam, who saddled six winners last term.

"He's been a very consistent sprinter for me and he was quite unlucky in his last two starts," he said.
