Feng leads the way as Singapore beat Poland
The Singapore women's table tennis team maintained their unbeaten record at the World Team Table Tennis Championships 2016 with a 3-1 win over Poland on Tuesday morning (March 1).
World No. 8 Feng Tianwei, playing her seventh match in three days, battled hard before beating Poland's chopper Li Qian 15-13, 6-11, 11-5, 17-15 in the first singles to give the Republic the lead.
Yu Mengyu doubled the lead for Singapore in the second singles with a 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 11-7 win over Katarzyna Grzybowska.
Youngster Zhang Wanling, who put in an admirable shift in the Republic's 3-1 win over Ukraine on Sunday, could not replicate that performance today, as she lost 11-4, 11-5, 11-5 to Poland's Klaudia Kusinska.
Feng, 29, returned to the court in the fourth singles to tie up matters for Singapore with a 12-10, 11-8, 11-2 win over Grzybowska.
The Republic will face Holland tomorrow (March 2) to decide who tops Group C. The winners of each of the four groups will progress directly to the quarter-finals, while the runners-up and the third-placed teams in each group will go to the Round of 16.
