See, but don't torch

The official 28th South-east Asia (SEA) Games torch made its first public appearance yesterday at some neighbourhoods around Singapore.

Residents of Ang Mo Kio, Bishan-Toa Payoh, Jurong and Pasir Ris-Punggol got the chance to see the SEA Games torch less than two weeks before the opening ceremony on June 5.

The viewing of the torch - and posing for photographs - is part of a series of the Community Sports Festivals organised by People's Association.

Residents, with some Team Singapore athletes, also took part in lighting their community flame to signify support for the athletes at the Games.

During the Torch Parade on June 4, all the community flames - which represent the spirit of the local community - will be used to light the SEA Games torch.

The torch will then be paraded around Marina Bay. On June 5, the torch will make its final journey to the Singapore Sports Hub for the cauldron lighting during the opening ceremony of the SEA Games.
