Star power

You might have spotted them at the SEA Games venues.

Ten local celebrities from Beam Artistes, one of Singapore's top talent agencies, have been lending their star power to the regional sporting extravaganza in their roles as the official SEA Games Celebrity Ambassadors since May 29.

Their duty? To make the Games as extraordinary as they can.

Armed with just their mobile phones, they go around the various sporting venues snapping selfies and posting status updates on their social media accounts, with the aim of creating buzz for the Games.

Devarajan Varadarajan, one of the artistes involved as an ambassador, said: "The idea is to give the audience an alternative view that cannot be seen on telecast media platforms.

UP CLOSE

"The 10 artistes have been given all-access media passes to the Games and will get to see things happen up close.

"We will post short video clips and quotes from participants, their coaches and from fans whenever possible.

"We intend to bring the people closer to the Games, behind the scenes and, hopefully, we will get something that goes viral."

Already, the likes of Paul Foster and Andrea Fonseka have posted social media updates that have amassed shares or "likes" by the hundreds, and Varadarajan said: The main thing is all about engaging the crowds at the Games venues.

"All this is not scripted and is very fun and impromptu, and we're all doing this pretty much in our own free time.

"We really hope to join in the fans, and have as much fun with the Games as possible." - HAIQAL SARI
