Teen Alfian Jumaen wins silat gold for Singapore
Teenager Alfian Juma'en won Singapore's solitary silat gold medal at the SEA Games, beating Vietnam's Tran Dinh Nam in the Class F (70-75kg) final at Expo Hall Two on Sunday afternoon (June 14).
The 18-year-old Ngee Ann Polytechnic student had lost to Tran at the Pencak Silat World Championships in Phuket in Janurary, but exacted sweet revenge in front of a partisan home crowd.
Alfian dropped his opponent to the mat five times. Even a bleeding foot from an injury picked up in the third and final round could not stop him from defending the title he first won at the Myanmar SEA Games in 2013.
With today's triumph, Singapore's tally in silat is one gold, one silver and six bronzes.
