WATCH: S'pore Asian Games footballers talk about 2-1 win, being knocked out of next round
Two-goal striker Shahfiq Ghani smiled as he was congratulated by his Singapore team-mates. They beat Palestine 2-1 in the Asian Games football tournament on Sunday (Sept 21).
And they were set to celebrate a historic achievement.
But their first Asian Games win since a 6-1 win over Pakistan in 1990 was not enough to get them past the first round for the first time since 1966, when Majid Ariff led the Lions to a fourth-placed finish.
Tajikistan scored an injury-time winner in the other Group C match to beat Oman 1-0 and progress to the round of 16 alongside Palestine.
Both teams have six points, while Singapore finished their campaign on four points following yesterday's victory and an earlier 3-3 draw with Oman and a 1-0 defeat by Tajikistan.
Check out this exclusive video of what the players had to say after the game.
