2012/13 Week #52 Winner: Charmaine Yap
A close-up of the National Day Parade 2013's fireworks display set beside the Marina Bay Sands and the Dome of Gardens By The Bay. In Singapore, things are changing faster than we can remember, and soon, we might not be able to see this view again. This is possibly the last time we'll see the National Parade being held at Marina Bay and capturing this image means a lot more to me. In addition, having the National Flag projected on the underneath of the Marina Bay Sands made it a lot more apt, and it's definitely a picture I will hold on to for memories.
Unlike many wide shots of the fireworks display, I decided to take the risk and shoot a telephoto shot of the fireworks. It was a big gamble because I had to estimate the height of the display and to work fast according to the wind conditions on that night. Pan left. Tilt down. Tilt back up. Drop shutter speed. Fire. Review. Fire. Things were moving really fast and 10 minutes went by in a blink of an eye. It was challenging, thrilling yet humbling. Definitely an unforgettable National Day spent with my camera and something I will try all over again.
