7 songs written for exes by rejected celeb lovers
Pop stars in the music industry write songs that reflect their personal lives almost all the time.
Here are 7 popular singers who have written their version of a 'sob song' over the last few years:
1. Adele - Someone Like You
While most of the songs on this list feature stars venting their anger through their art, UK-based superstar, Adele, had the good grace to wish photographer Alex Sturrock a happy future on this tear-jerking hit single from her record-breaking album 21.
2. Alanis Morissette - You Oughta Know
Now, it was Alanis Morissettes' bad romance that opened the door to releasing her career defining track which publicly aired every last detail of her dirty laundry with ex and Full House actor, Dave Coulier.
Warning: If you're about to listen to the lyrics to her hit song, prepare for excruciating explicit references.
3. Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River
He spent years denying it but the former N'Sync star finally admitted this solo song was about his ex, Britney Spears.
After all, if the Britney body double wasn't a huge give away, I don't know what else would be.
Timberlake ended their three-year romance after he claimed Britney cheated on him with pal Wade Robson.
4. Ed Sheeran - Don't
Ed Sheeran may be the sweet singer-songwriter that everybody just can't hate but he is pulling no punches when it comes to ex-girlfriend, English popstar Ellie Goulding.
Apparently outraged by Goulding's reported affair with One Direction star Niall Horan, Sheeran hit back with not one but two tracks about her, Don't and new rap song Take It Back.
5. Pink - So What
Alecia Beth Moore Hart, better known by her stage name, Pink, was pretty scathing towards hubby Carey Hart, branding him a “tool” in this hit song.
Yet amazingly, there was a happy ending with this character assassination. The visual display led to a reconciliation at the end where the couple kissed and made up shortly afterwards.
After all, that was what happened in real life..
6. Taylor Swift - I Knew You Were Trouble
One Direction star Harry Styles broke Swift's heart and he wasn't getting away with it.
She was out for more revenge even after releasing this song.
The 24-year-old US singer-songwriter thanked him for inspiring the award-winning track at the MTV Video Music Awards and the cameras panned to him sitting in the audience.
Ouch.
7. Rod Stewart - Maggie May
This Scottish star's hit track tells the story of a schoolboy's relationship with a domineering older woman.
He later admitted the song “was more or less a true story about the first woman I had sex with at the Beaulieu Jazz Festival”.
He was allegedly "taken advantage of" and later told to "get out".
