Downton Abbey cast banned from wearing modern underwear
How do you solve a problem like a sneaky plastic bottle of water on the set of period drama Downton Abbey?
Well apparently, the solution is to ban everything that is remotely contemporary.
And that includes modern underwear, reports the British media.
The show had a "bottlegate" gaffe when a bottle of water was left on the mantlepiece as actors Hugh Bonneville and Laura Carmichael posed for a publicity shot as their characters on the show.
Fans, who have been vocal about time period inconsistencies, were quick to point out the discrepancy.
The cast soon responded by posing with bottles in a cute, tongue-in-cheek shot to promote the work of international charity WaterAid.
But it seems they are taking the crisis more seriously.
One member of the cast said: "Modern watches and jewellery are out and so even is modern underwear as the danger is apparently too great it could be seen if we bend over."
Series creator Lord Julian Fellowes said: "They have relented in the case of prescription glasses and asthma guns, but that's about it."
