‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ soundtrack tops music charts

The alien superheroes of  “Guardians of the Galaxy” didn't just storm the movie box office.

The Marvel superheroes’ 1970s-style soundtrack also aced the U.S. Billboard chart - climbing to top spot on Wednesday (Aug 13).

Titled “Awesome Mix Vol. 1", the album is filled with classic hits such as:

Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling”

The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back”

David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream”

And for numbers fans, here goes:

Nielsen SoundScan figures said the album sold 109,000 copies in its second week.

Not bat at all since it had entered the chart last week at No. 3, when first-week sales hovered around the 60,000 mark.

The 12-track retro mix is featured heavily throughout the film as rogue hero Peter Quill’s own soundtrack while he battles evil intergalactic villains to save the galaxy.

It is the second soundtrack this year to top the album chart, following the success of Walt Disney Co’s animated hit “Frozen.”
