Guess who's playing Aaliyah in a movie?

Lifetime, a US TV network, recently announced it's making a movie about the late R&B singer Aaliyah, who died in a plane crash in 2001 at the age of 22.

The actress slated to play this iconic star?

It's none other than the Disney Channel's Zendaya (below), who starred on the show Shake It Up and, more recently, was the youngest person ever to join Dancing with the Stars.

Zendaya arrives at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles, California April 13, 2014.

The 17-year-old is also a singer, having released her self-titled debut album last year. Variety reports that she will record four of Aaliyah's songs for the film.

The movie, titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, will be based on the bestselling 2001 book Aaliyah: More Than A Woman.
