LOTR star to Pope: Wanna join me for football match?
"Lord of the Rings” star Viggo Mortensen is an avid football fan.
His team of choice? Argentine club San Lorenzo.
Even in the middle of making the movie promotional rounds - this time in Venice for the premier of his latest film “Far From Men" by French director David Oelhoffen - he still has the Beautiful Game on his mind.
Specifically, he hopes to persuade fellow football buff Pope Francis to join him at a match. (Psst, you'll find out why soon)
Mortensen broke off from interviews yesterday to pose in front of the team’s flag and chat about this year’s FIFA Club World Cup.
Tthe 56-year-old said with a grin: “I want to invite the pope to see the film and attend the match in Morocco between San Lorenzo and Real Madrid for the Club World Cup.”
You and me both, Pope
The Danish-American actor was born in New York but speaks fluent Spanish, having moved to Venezuela.
He then settled in Argentina where his father managed chicken farms.
As for the pope, he has been a supporter of the Buenos-Aires based outfit since he was a boy. - AFP
