Malaysian rocker Awie accused of domestic abuse

Popular rock singer Awie, 45, confirmed to Malaysian newspaper Kosmo! that he has given a statement to the police about the allegations that he had his abused his wife Rozana Misbun, 36.

Selangor CID chief Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah confirmed that Awie was detained before he was released on bail.

A June 29 Kosmo! report alleged that Awie had been seen assaulting his wife in front of a bank in Ampang, Selangor.

The singer, famous for hits Tragedi Oktober and Bara, had earlier denied that that he had beaten up his wife and also demanded that proof be provided to substantiate the accusations.

While Kosmo! did not say when the alleged assault took place, it published pictures which had been circulating online of a woman who is said to be Rozana, with bruises on her eyes and face.

According to The Rakyat Post, Awie said that he is leaving the matter to be investigated by the authorities.
