Eight Hollywood faces to look out for in 2015
Lupita Nyong'o came from nowhere and became an Oscar sensation earlier this year.
Matthew McConaughey rebranded himself as a serious actor.
Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes blindsided everyone when their pregnancies came to light.
We can always count on Hollywood celebrities to throw us a curveball every now and then.
Yet, there are those who we know will make headlines - no surprises there.
Trust these names to grab your attention in 2015, one way or another.
JOHN BOYEGA
This 22-year-old Brit actor caused quite a stir on social media over the recent Thanksgiving holidays when the Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakenstrailer was released.
Many Star Wars fans got their knickers into a twist trying to decipher Boyega's importance in the film as his face is the first to appear in the 88-second teaser. But others weren't too pleased that director JJ Abrams had cast a black Stormtrooper and took to Twitter to vent their displeasure through #BlackStormtrooper.
Thanks or no thanks to the trending topic, Boyega is no longer anonymous, and will get more exposure as the publicity for the long-awaited sequel heats up next year.
We'll have to wait until Dec 17 to know whether the Attack Of The Block star is truly a Stormtrooper or a rebel in disguise.
ANNA KENDRICK
This Oscar-nominated US actress' vocal prowess will be the centre of attention.
She has already garnered rave reviews in the role of Cinderella (above), as part of the star-studded ensemble cast of upcoming movie musical Into The Woods, which opens here on Jan 15.
And if you can't get enough of her singing, there's Pitch Perfect 2, the only chick flick that dares to go up against the testosterone-heavy summer blockbuster line-up.
Opening here on May 14, the comedy sequel reunites Kendrick, 29, with Australian comedienne Rebel Wilson as the duo attempt to take their a capella group to the world championships.
The first movie was a sleeper hit - it made $148 million at the global box office when it was released in 2012. We bet this will be a winner too.
CHRIS PRATT & HIS DINO PALS
Tell us you're not excited about Jurassic World.
It's been more than a decade since dinosaurs ruled the big screen in 2001's Jurassic Park III.
Come June 11, Guardians Of The Galaxy's leading man and 2014's breakout star Pratt is in the hot seat with some crafty velociraptors, playing a behavioural research guy in the newly-opened Jurassic World theme park.
Like we've seen in the earlier movies, the dinos enjoy terrorising people and this time, it's a genetically-modified hybrid dinosaur that's on the loose.
With Steven Spielberg back on the project as producer, we know these creatures will again, be the stars while the humans will be more or less dispensable.
BLAKE LIVELY
The pregnant blonde bombshell may have a figure that keeps on growing, but that's not stopping her from being one gorgeous mum-to-be.
Coupled with actor-husband Ryan Reynolds' genes, their offspring is sure to be so cute, it will no doubt be the focus of media attention come March or April.
Look for the always-stylish US actress, 27, to continue rocking the red carpet, especially when her first movie headliner, The Age Of Adaline, comes out on May 7.
The epic romance, in which she plays the titular protagonist who remains 29 years old for almost eight decades, sees her stand her ground against Hollywood veterans like Harrison Ford, Ellen Burstyn and Kathy Baker.
CHRIS HEMSWORTH
The 31-year-old Aussie actor will get big bucks from The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, opening April 30. What he needs to prove is that he does have a respectable career outside the superhero world.
He has two chances: firstly in Michael Mann's crime thriller Blackhat, opening Jan 15. Then there is Ron Howard's ambitious biopic In The Heart Of The Sea, which opens on Mar 12, that deals with shipwrecks and cannibalism.
Hemsworth's last movie with Howard, 2013's Rush, was a commercial dud earning only US$90 million (S$118 million) at the global box office, plus he was overshadowed by co-star Daniel Bruhl.
Next year will be the litmus test for People magazine's new Sexiest Man Alive, to see if he can truly command the big screen minus his Thor costume.
MINIONS
Yellow will be the colour of Summer 2015.
Undoubtedly the best things in the animated hit Despicable Me and its sequel, these popular critters are finally getting their own movie, simply called Minions, which is an origin tale of their desire to serve a villainous master.
Their appeal is undeniable among young and old, and judging from the hilarious trailer, they will definitely be box-office champs come June 18.
CARA DELEVINGNE
No stranger to the fashion world, this British supermodel, 22, is making her presence felt on the big screen.
She scored the lead role in Paper Towns, a young adult drama based on John Green's novel, which opens here July 2.
Then she's in Pan, where she exchanges her lovely long legs for a mermaid's tail.
While her role is still a mystery in the Hugh Jackman-starring retelling of the Peter Pan story (opening here on July 16) she was featured prominently in the movie's trailer - and that's always a good sign.
MILES TELLER
Next year will be pretty fantastic for this 27-year-old US actor - literally - as he takes on the role of Mr Fantastic in The Fantastic Four superhero reboot, opening on Aug 6.
He's also a must-watch in the critically-acclaimed Whiplash (Jan 15) and The Divergent Series: Insurgent (Mar 19) for his acting chops.
