Movie Review: The Faith Of Anna Waters (NC16)
Kelvin Tong's first horror movie, The Maid (2005), was well-told and scary.
But perhaps the local film-maker has set his own bar too high.
His latest English-language offering is basically a rehash of famous horror films such as Ringu, The Exorcist, The Conjuring and many others. It gives you that deja vu feeling and not in a good way.
The story revolves around Jamie Waters (Elizabeth Rice), who is investigating her sister Anna's suicide as she suspects something fishy. It doesn't help that Anna's daughter (Adina Herz) keeps saying her mummy is coming back.
Throw in a silly parallel plot about demonic cyber activity, and this movie squeezes in too many things to the point of being convoluted. Also, the scares come off as cheap.
