What is it about Tom Hanks that makes him so pleasant to watch?

Even in a movie that has neither climax nor tension, the veteran Hollywood actor makes it very easy to stay on for the entire ride.

Hanks plays Alan Clay, a divorced American sent to Saudi Arabia to sell a teleconference device to the king.

He continues to be dealt with setbacks but finds himself making new friends.

Despite not having much of a story to tell or anything to look forward to, the dramedy doesn't feel like a drag.

It sails smoothly from start to finish and feels like a pleasant adventure, even if it is not particularly memorable.
