Movie Review: Joy (PG13)

The plot reads like one unbelievable piece of Hollywood fiction.

How can anyone experience so many upheavals in her life and remain positive, eventually having her own business empire?

Joy is a true rags-to-riches saga about Joy Mangano, the US inventor of the self-wringing Miracle Mop.

Jennifer Lawrence is the titular never-say-die heroine, whose odds are constantly stacked against her.

Joy is not a David O. Russell masterpiece compared to his earlier works that featured Lawrence, like Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle.

The film's flow is erratic and uneven.

You can tell he's trying to squeeze in as much as possible in under 124 minutes.

It may boast a star-studded cast, but Joy thrives mainly because of Lawrence's performance.

You will definitely buy whatever she sells.
