Movie Review: The Nice Guys (M18)

Who would have thought that Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling would have such great comic chemistry?

Both are reputed for their dramatic prowess after all. To see them trading barbs while doling out pretty brutal stuff is refreshing.

Director Shane Blackplays up the odd-couple pairing to fantastic results.

Gosling is Holland March, a stumbling private detective and single father to precocious teen Holly (Angourie Rice). Crowe's Jackson Healy is a debt collector who aspires to be a detective. Their paths cross while investigating the death of a porn star and a missing girl.

Without this dynamic duo, The Nice Guys will be forgettable. They inject fun into the serviceable plot.

Newcomer Rice does a brilliant job as the pair's conscience.
