Movie Review: One Night Only (PG13)

A solid directorial debut by Taiwanese film-maker Matt Wu.

One Night Only defies easy categorisation - it's part romance, part action flick and part thriller.

The story revolves around compulsive gambler Gao Ye (Aaron Kwok) and bubbly prostitute Mo Mo (Yang Zishan).

In a bid to settle their hefty debts, they find themselves entangled in a series of misadventures, from underground boxing to street racing.

There are times when the film dips into melodrama territory, but the excellent cinematography makes up for it.

I love the neon-lit urban landscape and use of vibrant, electric colours.

Rating: 3/5
