Movie Review: Our Kind Of Traitor (M18)

Is it still a thriller if it's not exactly thrilling?

Our Kind Of Traitor is not a bad film. It has no shortage of talent, nor is it poorly executed. Yet it doesn't have the nail-biting effect it should have.

Ewan McGregor and Naomie Harris play a British couple who meet Russian mafia member Dima (Stellan Skarsgard) while on holiday.

They team up with an MI6 agent (Damian Lewis) when Dima offers insider information in exchange for his family's protection.

McGregor and Harris' protagonists are bizarre. They are able to work together easily despite the film starting with their relationship problems.

What saves the entire thing is Skarsgard, who steals the spotlight by striking the balance between a ruthless figure and a loving family man.

His character is compelling and gives us someone to root for.
